I used to get these quite often, but not had one for a while.

This one came from a private/withheld number. When i picked up I could tell it was a call center, with so many other people talking in the background. She asked is that Mr Potter, I said yep. So they know my name and phone number(wonder where they got that from?)
She then proceeds to say, "I believe you were in a road traffic accident in the last couple of years" I said "someone just made that up" and then hung up.

I've had these call before and got quite concerned that someone was claiming against me for something I wasn't involved in, and spoke to my insurance company, no accident was reported to them.

I believe these calls are just fishing for accidents, they may get someone that says 'yes I was in an accident'. Then the proceed to some no win no fee crap, where they get commission and where does the money comes from? blooming insurance payers!. They just trying to dig up past accidents to see where they can make money. It really gets my back up!. At least it wasn't a PPI call this time.

Bet your other half will be getting them now as well,
how's her car by the way?

You should ask for there company details then ask them to remove your number from there list!!! Tell them that I they call again you will invoice them for your time!.. Then worse case they call send invoice which they will not pay then you can take legal action to reclaim cost owed!!! ( chief of Sussex police told me about this and it works) as of last year 6 company's had to pay via court!! To the recipant .. Plays them at there own game!!

Dan, I had one of these today too. She asked me to confirm I had an accident. I said to her she must know the details as she's just called me. She repeated, yes but please confirm you have. I just kept saying, if you've called me then you must know the answer and this went to and fro for a few minutes and she just hung up. Funnily enough it wasn't a withheld number so I have now reported to ofcom :). Apparently the more people that do this the more these firms will get fined!

You can also register your number (s) with the TPS or telephone preference service.
Numbers registered with the TPS must be ignored by sales & cold callers. Anyone ignoring that, and calling registered numbers is breaking the law.
Some still do, but it does cut the number of calls received.
