BMW turns 100 years old in 2016. As a commemorative gesture, two of its M6 GTLM race cars will wear brand new livery this weekend at Daytona. It"s a big anniversary, and so deserves a few fitting icons. The number #25 BMW M6 GTLM then, features an image of a 3.0 CSL that gave BMW its first major US race win at the 1975 Sebring 12 hour race. There"s another image of the M1 - which you"ll know requires little introduction because it"s excellent - along with a pic of the V12 LMR (which won at Le Mans and Sebring), and the all-conquering 2011 M3 GT. That last car took every title in its class in the 2011 American Le Mans Series. The #100 car features a vinyl wrap with a 3D-effect lattice design. They"ll both be seen in action this weekend at the 24 Hours of Daytona, which forms the first round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. "I hope the fans like the special liveries on our BMW M6 GTLMs to mark the centenary of BMW and our successful history of motor racing in North America," said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. "After many months of intense test and development work, we and our teams are really looking forward to the first race outing in Daytona. We know that we face a real test of endurance first up. However, we are only too happy to face this challenge and feel we are well prepared."It looks quite a thing, the M6 GTLM, doesn"t it? We"ll bring you news on its first outing at Daytona, so stay tuned to TG.com for more
