Pontiac

Pontiac have always innovated. Whether it being the "wide track" that gave them early advantages in the corners, or the legendary "super duty" engines that would still shock people today. Let's not forget that Pontiac had over 500hp from just 303ci in the late 60's, destined for the Trans Am racing series!

This article came to me via a mailing list and demonstrated what a well sorted Pontiac of the day could do against what was considered to be the cream!

Enjoy.

Got to laugh at the 403 Forbidden in the above post. 403ci, the Oldsmobile engine that superseded the Pontiac 400ci as GM moved towards corporate engines towards the end of the 70's. Olds engine in a post about Pontiac, the irony!

Certainly good power for the day 1hp per ci. Similar to now, LS1 being 346ci, and its rated at 350hp when fitted in a vette, or 325hp in camaro/firebird. So for them to get 400hp from a 400ci in the 60's is certainly ahead of its time, where regular V8 were usually around 150hp.
