There are essentially two reasons why trucks have traditionally been overlooked as drag racers. For starters, they’re obviously heavier than their passenger car brethren. And of course, that weight isn’t positioned over the rear wheels, where you’d like it to be. But that hasn’t stopped plenty of enterprising racers from building some crazy fast trucks in recent years. Like Steve Wiley‘s insane Chevy S-10.The Pro Mod pickup can’t hide its massive 521-inch Hemi, nor its ridiculous Kobelco 14-71 blower. And with that kind of power, you might imagine that it would take some serious physics defying voodoo to make this little Chevy S-10 hook. And you’d be right, kind of. Wiley does admit that they intentionally left some weight on the truck, which sports a steel roof and quarters with a stock wheelbase.Lining up against a nitrous-powered Camaro, this beastly Chevy S-10 hooks like some sort of master fisherman. Or seasoned lady of the night, if you prefer. There’s virtually no wheelspin off the line, albeit a little dancing down the unprepped track. On the next pass, the blown S-10 simply walks away from a nitrous-fed Corvette, which struggles to hook. ALSO SEE: From the Forums, GMC Sonoma Sets Stock Bottom End Record 1/4-Mile Pass Wiley barely noses by Mike Murillo‘s Mustang to make it to the finals in one of the better drag races you’ll ever see. But the finals are much less dramatic, as Wiley takes the win (and the $25k prize) with no problem. Apparently, knocking down top level muscle car competition is no problem for this little pickup. It’s just another sign that the laws of physics don’t apply to smart drag racers these days. Even though we’d imagine that plenty of folks don’t expect to be starting at his bed when they line up against him!Join the LS1tech forums today!Tags: Chevrolet, Chevy, Drag Racing, Hemi, racing, S-10, Supercharged, Video
