Vauxhall has expanded its line-up of fully electric commercial vehicles, with the new Combo-e. It goes on sale in the UK towards the end of this year, providing competition for the Renault Kangoo ZE and Nissan eNV200.
The Vauxhall Combo-e shares the most important parts of its chassis with its larger sibling, the Vivaro-e. It rides on the same EMP2 underpinnings, which houses an electric motor and 50kWh battery pack.
The motor has an output of 134bhp and 260Nm of torque – enough, says Vauxhall, for a 0–60mph time of 11.2 seconds and a limited top speed of 80mph. Like the Citroen e-Berlingo, the Combo-e has a maximum range of 171 miles, while its battery can be topped up to 80 per cent capacity in just 30 minutes using a 100kW fast-charger.
As the battery pack sits under the vehicle’s floor, the Combo-e has the same carrying capacity as the diesel model. The short wheelbase variant has a capacity of 3.8 cubic metres, while the long wheelbase option can swallow up to 4.4 cubic metres.
Vauxhall also offers a broad range of technology on the Combo-e, including an eight-inch infotainment system is available, along with a 180-degree rear-view camera, traffic sign recognition, forward collision alert and automatic emergency braking. It also features an overload indicator, which warns the driver when the van has exceeded its maximum payload capacity.
Vauxhall will continue to expand its electric van line-up with a pure-electric version of the Movano expected to arrive before the end of the year – meaning the brand will have an electric commercial vehicle in all three of the key van size brackets.
