OpenSynergy releases its Fast-boot Android solution to decrease time-to-market for human-machine interface (HMI) products and to shorten start-up delays for drivers. Android offers automakers a robust framework, but non-optimized Android-based infotainment systems typically require 20 to 30 seconds to boot. The OpenSynergy solution enables Android interface access seconds after cold boot. Fast-boot Android does not require standby power and offers no effect on the operating system itself. It can run in a native environment or as virtualized Android. Total boot time varies depending on hardware and apps available during start-up, but a few seconds is typical. The solution is available for the Freescale i.MX6 platform and the Android 4.2 and 4.4 distributions and can be adapted to various hardware, Linux kernels, and boot loaders.
