Infiniti"s third-generation Q60 sports coupe packs a 400-hp (298-kW) performance punch when equipped with the new VR30 V6 twin-turbo engine, a lively compliment to the car"s sporty body styling. "The final product is a near-literal translation of the Q60 concept that was such a hit last year," Carlos Ghosn, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., said during the 2017 model year Q60"s world debut at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. A deep-body stamping process enables the coupe to mimic the concept car"s sharp angles and striking lines. Ghosn proclaimed that this next-generation Q60 "reinforces Infiniti"s reputation for performance, elegance, and driver-focused design." The 2017 Q60 is offered with either a 2.0-L turbocharged four-cylinder co-developed with Daimler that produces 208 hp (155 kW) at 5500 rpm and 258 lb ft (350 N m) at 1500 rpm, or an all-new 3.0-L V6 twin-turbo in two tunes: 300 hp (224 kW) and 400 hp at 6400 rpm. Peak torque occurs from 1600-5200 rpm at 295 lb ft (400 N m) on the 300-hp engine, and at 350 lb ft (475 N m) on the 400-hp version. The prior generation coupe was powered by the VQ-series 3.7-L V6 that netted 330 hp (246 kW) at 7000 rpm and 270 lb ft (366 N m) at 5200 rpm. V6-equipped 2017 models feature standard electric power steering as well as an active grille shutter for engine cooling and aerodynamic purposes. Q60"s chiseled exterior shape nets a 0.28 drag coefficient versus the previous Q60 Coupe Journey"s 0.31 Cd. The twin-turbo 3.0-L V6 makes it debut on the 2016 Q50 Red Sport 400 sports sedan. Infiniti"s second-generation Direct Adaptive Steering System, available on V6 models, lets the driver individualize the steering performance, according to Keith St. Clair, Director of Product Management and Planning at Infiniti USA. "With the Direct Adaptive Steering System, the driver has the ability to personalize the steering feel and the steering response. At the same time, you can modify the overall driving character of the car [via] the drive mode," St. Clair said in an interview with Automotive Engineering. The 112.2-in (2850-mm) wheelbase coupe"s all-new Dynamic Digital Suspension system is standard on the Sport grade models. This electronic system is designed to elicit best-in-class agility, handling responses, and ride comfort. "When you add it all up, you can adjust the steering, the suspension, and the engine performance. That"s performance customization," said St. Clair. "The coupe is clearly the centerpiece of our performance expression. So first and foremost the [engineering team"s] goal was to bring excitement and put a smile on the face of the driver." Q60 is fitted with standard 19-in aluminum alloy wheels. Optional 20-in wheels will be available in select markets, marking an Infiniti-first for a sports coupe. The rear-wheel-drive two-door will be available with an intelligent all wheel drive system as well as several safety technologies, including Around View Monitor, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot intervention, and backup collision intervention. The outgoing Q60 model ended its production in February 2015. The 2017 Q60 sports coupe goes on sale in the summer of 2016 in the Americas, followed by other markets.<br />
