Top Gear was sorely disappointed that the production version of Renault"s Kwid" took such a departure from the concept car. No butterfly doors. No roof-mounted drone. Nothing. This then, appears to redress the balance. It"s called the Kwid Racer", and it has just been revealed at the New Delhi Auto Show. You"ll admit, it"s a feisty little bugger. The Kwid of course, is the Twingo-sized city car built for India. Gone then, is the drab paintjob and econo-box stance we saw last year. In its place stands a car that"s been treated to some new aero: a new grille and front diffuser, air inlets ahead of the front wheels (and behind the rears), new side skirts, a new rear diffuser and a diddy roof-mounted spoiler.More fightiness comes in the shape of 18in wheels and low profile tyres, an electric blue paintjob, and an interior shod in Alcantara, aluminium and carbon. There are even bucket seats bucket seats! with four-point harnesses, a roll cage and a digital dash behind a sportier steering wheel. Because racing.Renault hasn"t revealed any powertrain details sadly. So we live in hope they"ve secretly managed to shoehorn in the GT-R"s twin-turbo V6 - used in the R.S. 01 racer - and all of its 600bhp, Nismo-tuned horsepower. Yes, we"ve seen the pics and realise that monster powerplant is probably bigger than all of the Kwid. But like we said, hopeElsewhere, Renault also showed an off-roading version of the Kwid, called the Climber". As such, it gets a higher ground clearance, bigger bumpers and protective mouldings. It"s also orange. Both cars are just concepts, mind, but the Kwid has apparently got off to a good start in India: since it launched just four months ago, some 90,000 orders have already been taken.Should Renault immediately build the Racer", and ship it over here? Answers below, please.
