What happens when you pit a Koenigsegg One:1 against a tuned Porsche 911 on a really long stretch of tarmac? That"s the experiment that unfolded at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground on Saturday, as two teams battled to set a new top speed record at a Vmax200 event over the weekend. In the hands of Oli Webb a World Endurance Championship driver for ByKolles Racing in the LMP1 category the Koenigsegg beat the old record of 229mph, before the rival Porsche edged ahead with an effort of 231mph.At that point the heavens opened and it looked like all was lost. Luckily for the One:1, conditions improved enough for it to hit 240mph before the end of the day. Meaning a new benchmark for the fastest car to have ever travelled at Bruntingthorpe."What a day, when the rain came I thought our chance to beat to Porsche 911 might have gone so we got lucky when things cleared up and we were able to get more running in," said a delighted Webb."It"s an absolutely astonishing car and pushing it to a new record at 240mph felt incredible. Next time we"re going to head abroad to somewhere with more reliable weather to see if we can go even faster."The One:1 of course, adds Bruntingthorpe to its list of records - which includes Spa and Suzuka. Now, we"re just waiting on the ultimate one at a small, unknown German race trackImage credit:mad:Supercar_Driver & Riad ArianeShare this page: FacebookTwitterGoogle+WhatsAppMailtoCopy link
