Rumours

I've heard a rumour that Ford are planning to make a hybrid Mustang??!
Personally I think it's the wrong sort of car to have a hybrid model but then Ford have been known to make some huge mistakes with the Mustang in the past, Mustang II with a 4cyl anyone?
Thoughts?

I guess many car manufacturers have to go the hybrid or battery route at some time. I can see Ford doing it, but the Mustang is their flagship performance car(well apart from the GT40 looking thing) how can you have a thoroughbred performance car with hybrid stamped on it. Call it a different name, Ford Donkey? Ford Ass?

Precisely, do it to the Taurus or whatever else Ford sells but the Mustang is an iconic pony car with a history and popularity that deserves more than the current fashion of hybrid. When hybrids die in favour of the next planet saving invention (whatever!) they might find the Mustang dies too?

At lest if ford do it. It could be fixed with two AA batteries and some gaffer tape.lol

More rumours.
The 2018 Corvette will return the ZR1. They are bringing back the LT5 moniker for its new engine and whilst it will be a dual overhead cam v8 that's where the similarities between it the old one end. Rumours say it will be a n/a 6.2L with a flat plane crank producing more HP than the current supercharged Z06 LT1. Possibly a full on winged and spoiler' race car.

Sounds interesting, delivering more power than the supercharged one.

Will this be the first dual overhead cam for the Chevy block? surely that the mustang thing to do which seems to produce less power.

No, the original LT5 in the 90's ZR1 was overhead cam, a quad setup iirc. It was developed in conjunction with Mercury Marine and with a few tweaks was very potent.

Nice find. It will be interesting for sure, especially considering the rumors about Dodge and its challenger (pun intended) to the current HP king the Hellcat! The Horsepower wars are definitely back!

The story seems to have been confirmed in the most recent issue of Auto Express. Apparently the addition of the electric motor will be for performance enhancing reasons more than economy (it's a bit more extreme, but think McLaren P1). It sort have makes sense as another option alongside the turbo 4, V6, and traditional V8.

The Mustang has always moved with the times and adapted over the years, which is why it survived in continuous production unlike rivals that have died and been revived later. The Mustang II was the right car at the right time and sold well in the post oil crisis years, ensuring the Mustang lived on when the likes of the Challenger/Barracuda and AMC Javelin faded away.

I'm not sure the Mustang survived in anything but name throughput the oil crisis. I think it was basically a Pinto underneath with some badging from 74-78?
Ford was quite clever with the more recent models as huge numbers of V6 cars were sold to rental car agencies which gave a fake impression of numbers sold. True enthusiasts have always wanted the V8 and Ford recognise that with the latest GT models. I'm not a Ford man so it's no skin off my nose as long as they don't set a precedent for the other manufacturers and end up offering anemic 4cyl hybrids with a poxy V6 as the top option. It doesn't matter how many turbos they bolt to a V6 or how quick it is, there is nothing like a V8!
Just my opinion of course, but I want V8's - can I get a amen from my V8's loving brethren on this forum?

Amen brother - v8s rule - it's why I want one ;)

is the 3.8l a V6 or V8? Clare wants a V8.

I dont know what it is but I just can't bring myself to replace the v6 in her.

In any event - could be time for a change ..... ;)
