The European Commission has provisionally approved plans to place speed limiters on all new cars sold from 2022 onwards, and we want to know your thoughts. The intelligent speed assistance (ISA) system uses both GPS data and sign recognition technology to check speed limits, and then automatically keeps the car below the required limits. However, drivers are able to override this by pressing firmly on the accelerator. The ISA system will become mandatory along with a raft of other safety features, including advanced emergency braking, lane-keep assistance and black box data recorders that will provide information in the event of an accident.
