Plucked From Mickey Thompson’s Corvette In 1963, It Will Soon Be Returned To It!

Dyno-ing a one-off Chevy 427 Mystery Motor built by Smokey Yunick back in the 1960's was nerve wracking, historic, and a rush. These Mark II 427s were the predecessors to Chevy’s infamous big block engine. Guesstimates of how many were made range from 17 to maybe 50. Tom McIntyre’s is the only race-version of a Mystery Motor that exists. The Mark II is a mash up of both 409 W engine specs like bore spacing, and bore/stroke; and its unique canted valve heads, more commonly called porcupine heads for the differing valve stem angles you see with the valve covers off. Among its many test bed purposes was evaluating the use of screw in rocker studs...........................

A real engine.
I saw an advert on TV for some sort of Gunball rally, where the cars head towards mexico. A guy on there in his Ferrari, said to the camera, listen to this 'Real' engine, I laugh and think of Sarah sewing machine has more grunt than that. Can't beat the sound of the V8 with a decent size bore.
