Felipe Massa"s first retirement from Formula One lasted about six minutes. Before the start of this season he was drafted in to occupy the Williams left empty by Valtteri Bottas" move to Mercedes, there beginning his fourth season with Williams and 15th in F1. But now, ahead of his home GP in Sao Paulo next weekend, Massa has announced he plans to quit F1 at the end of this season, ending speculation he might drive for Williams again next year. At 36 Massa is pretty old for an F1 driver. That makes him the same age as former teammate Fernando Alonso, but two years younger than the oldest man on the grid Kimi Raikkonen and a whole teenager older than 20-year-old Max Verstappen. He"s won 11 races, finished on the podium 41 times and scored 16 pole positions. Massa started his career at Sauber, but most will remember him from his time at Ferrari, where he partnered Michael Schumacher and narrowly lost the 2008 World Championship to Lewis Hamilton. He would"ve won the championship that year had Hamilton not passed Timo Glock for fifth place on the last lap (at the second-to-last corner), winning the Brit his first title by a single point. Massa would never again come so close to winning a championship, but that"s not to say his career hasn"t been worth following. We"ll certainly miss him.Hit the comments and give us your favourite Massa moments.Share this page: FacebookTwitterGoogle+WhatsAppMailtoCopy link
