It"s update time for the full-fat Range Rover, and big news this time around is the addition of a new engine. Until now, you"ve only been able to get Land Rover"s new 395bhp 3.0-litre straight-six in the Range Rover Sport, but now you can get it in the proper Rangie too. Developed in-house and built at JLR"s 1billion engine plant in Wolverhampton, it features a conventional turbo and an electric supercharger to minimise lag, along with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The result is 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds and 140mph, plus up to 30.4mpg and 212g/km of CO2. Hardly figures to write home about, but not bad at all for such a big thing. The new engine is offered alongside the existing V6 and V8 diesels, the plug-in hybrid and V8. It will be badged P400, and prices will start at around 90K. The cheapest option remains the V6 diesel, which costs from just under 84K before options.
