The Chevy Cavalier is known today as being an inexpensive, efficient compact car that was great for getting from point A to point B, but back in 1985, General Motors was trying to market the boxy little Cavalier as a sporty car. This week"s Throwback is an example of that effort, with this 1985 Cavalier ad focusing on the fun-to-drive aspect of the compact Chevy even in wagon form! The commercial starts off with a jazzy jingle about popping the top, as we see someone blasting along a twisty road in a bright yellow Chevy Cavalier convertible. We also see someone zipping along in a Cavalier Type 10 coupe, rowing through gears with the manual transmission as the narrator talks about the fuel injected V6 engine.Looking back, it is hard to imagine that the Chevy Cavalier was marketed as a sporty car, but when you consider the strong sales of those small cars back then the move clearly worked.Crank up your speakers and enjoy.Tags: cavalier, Chevy, throwback thursday
