Forget the SVAutobiography Dynamic. Maybe. If you"ve got 135,000 to spend on a Range Rover, this is the one you really have to buy. It"s a factory-restored 1978 Range Rover Classic, and it"s the latest Reborn" Landie to emanate from Jaguar Land Rover Classic. Yep, that"s the same bunch of incredibly talented folk behind the XKSS and Lightweight E-Type continuations, and the reborn" Series 1 Land Rover. The Range Rover Reborn will be unveiled at this year"s Salon R tromobile in Paris, where it will be displayed alongside the XKSS and a privately-owned E-Type Coupe, the first to be fully restored by the factory. Finished in fetching Bahama Gold, it"s powered by a 3.5-litre V8 with an almighty 132bhp. At least there"s not too much weight to carry. It uses a humble four-speed manual gearbox and a lockable central differential. Look for a Hill Descent Control button and you"ll end up frustrated. An initial run" of 10 cars will be restored by JLR Classic, with prices starting at 135,000. Every Reborn Rangey will be restored to original Seventies factory spec, using proper parts. And going by these photos, the craftsmanship on offer might make these things a bit of a bargain. Seriously. We want one quite badly. Find out why by reading about the time we drove a proper, old Mk1 Range Rover.
