thoughts on Dunsfold wheels day

A good chance to see lots of good cars although the weather could have been a bit more kinder to those who turned up in shorts !!!!!!!!! will remember to take the jeans in future.

For some reason I was not hugely impressed the show seem to be a bit hit and miss with all types and years of cars mixed up in to one huge gathering and then trying to leave the site was a nightmare sat in non moving traffic for over an hour ! until the marshals thought of opening up the rear access gates at the far corner of the airfield. appreciate it was the first time for SSR to host there and hopefully next year will be better . just my opinion and for some it was probably a top day out .

We thought it was a good day. We arrived at around 9.45 and got straight in. Lots of cars to see. We left at around 2.30 and didn't get caught in any traffic at all leaving.

A lot of people have mentioned about the rear gates not being opened towards the end of the day - to be fair it wasn't down to the SSR to open them as it isn't their show ground. Dunsfold Park is an active airfield and so it's down to the owners of the park! At the end of the day - the final decision on what happens on the day is down to Dunsfold Park not SSR.

I also think SSR were shocked by the amount of vehicles that did in fact turn up. I believe they only planned on enough cars turning up to fill the grassy area but more turned up than planned so had to start use overflow areas. Get there early and you get a good spot IMHO.

From some of the comments I have read - they are uncalled for. I would like to see people try and put a show on like that especially at a new location which is obviously totally different from the previous location. Yes there were a few niggles - but they will more than likely be sorted by next year.

We have to count ourselves lucky that there was a show we could all attend in the beginning. It's a lot of hard work and they could easily have not bothered this year!

As I said before. Yes, there was traffic but what creates traffic - cars. At least everyone had got their pride and joys out!

:rantover: :)

Absolutely :)

Must say i had a good day apart from the chilly weather yes there has been good/bad things been said about this years event , it's a big learning curve for SSR and dunsfold , roll on next year's

great day out i will be there next year even thou i had to put the ranchero in the public parking area, cant understand complaining about the weather as it was dry all day

just looked on the mustang owners club page general discussion ....does not make for good reading lots of unhappy members. one point they make was that anyone who parked up could just walk in between the cars and stalls and not pay the ?5 admission fee, a tannoy anouncement was made asking people to pay !!!!! some people just went home after sitting in traffic for an hour. as we have said hope it gets sorted for next year !

Hopefully SSR made enough funds to cover the hire of the venue. I guess they were trying to get people off the roads and pay inside, but then people can get out of their cars and walk onto the show field without paying. If they charged people at the gate, tail backs of traffic would have been worse. I guess they will work on the best plan for next year now they know how it all panned out. Perhaps as you come in split into 4 lanes on each entrance, put up temporary fencing all the way until everyone has paid.

Yeah the first lot of people got in free as the marshals hadn't arrived. Cars were turning up earlier than anticipated apparently!

I was chatting to a well known person at the victory Wheelers car club, he mentioned there was only 3 main people in the SSR, so I'm not sure how big their club is. Perhaps they need volunteers for marshalls. I'm tempted to offer my services next year. Not that I've ever done it before.

Anybody know if the drone(halicopter thingy) video has been posted up yet anywhere?

From where we were parked there looked to be a lot of spare around the top gear track mybe next year public park around that area and fenced off/gate so to pay to get in and show cars mybe preregister to show registation to get in??? just a thought

And it was chilly but did catch a small tan with the sun being out , as said good day lots of cars lots of trade stands no traffic issues but did arrive early and left about 4ish,

well i must say we had a wicked day albeit bloody cold, but that just gave me an excuse to cuddle laine, not that i need one :yo: everyone was complaining about the traffic and how long they sat in it, i think ten mins was my max as i got out of bed early enough to arrive before the rush, roll on next year it was brilliant hats off to SSR if more people helped rather than complain about the show it would probably ease the rushing around the club have to do, its not easy and if it wasnt for the few that put on these shows we would not have any, moaning done see you all tomorrow at our show, where i will be rushing around with the few, happy days, :usa2::drum:

Yep, true, there are petitions etc on Facebook. It may not make a difference, but if they are offered help from other clubs, and they know how much it will be missed, maybe they will reconsider later on in the year. Fingers crossed.

I agree petitions might not do much other than remind SSR that the few always ruin things for the majority. But like most things...time will tell (and hopefully heal). I think with all the abuse they got, they just need some time to pull back, calm down, re-ground themselves and hey...it just might come back.

This is probably a silly idea but how about a coalition of clubs say SSR SR and VW all getting together to host a show there ? that way many club skills brought together to make one hell of a fantastic show :grouphug:
