The motorsport world is in mourning again after the family of United States Auto Club driver Bryan Clauson confirmed that the 27-year-old had passed away following a severe crash at Belleville High Banks Speedway Fairgrounds this weekend.Clauson who survived a heavy impact on the first night of the Belleville Nationals on Friday flipped and rolled his midget racer whilst leading Saturday"s dirt race, and was then struck from behind by another car before his vehicle had come to a stop.He was soon airlifted to hospital, but despite the best efforts of the medical team his injuries proved fatal, and he died "surrounded by family and friends".A statement released by his family said: "Our Bryan fought to the end with the same desire that he demonstrated behind the wheel of all the various race cars he would park in victory lane. However, we were more proud of our Bryan that took a moment to make a young fan"s day, or demonstrated his uncommon kindness and appreciation toward his friends, family and fans."We would like to thank everybody who has shown their concern toward us and kept us in their prayers. We will never be able to truly thank you."Clauson won multiple titles in several USAC series, although his talents took him much further than grassroots events with three appearances in the Indianapolis 500.At this year"s 100th running of the Indy 500, Clauson led for three laps on his way to finishing in 23rd place.Clauson"s family have requested that any charitable contributions donated in his name be made to the USAC Benevolent Foundation.Share this page: FacebookTwitterGoogle+WhatsAppMailtoCopy link
