This week"s Throwback Thursday video takes us back to 2013, when General Motors took a then-new 5th gen Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 to the N rburgring in Germany to see if their purpose-built road racing muscle car could tame the world"s toughest track. The bad news was that when GM got there with their crew, ready to hit the track with the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, the track was continuously drenched with rain. The good news was that even in the rain, the 5th gen Camaro Z/28 was able to get around the N rburgring faster than any American muscle car had before it while also beating the best times of some high end performance cars.General Motors and the Chevrolet Performance team are great about documenting things like setting the world"s quickest lap time at the N rburgring for an American muscle car, and for the 5th gen Camaro Z/28"s time on the track, the team had the in-car camera rolling. Also, a telemetry system which displays in the camera view gives us a look at the direction G-forces, the speed, the engine RPM, the elapsed time and the track map of the Nordschleife. This makes it much easier to see where the Camaro Z/28 is on the track and what is coming up as the driver slips and slides his way around the wet track. In the end, the rain most certainly slowed the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 down in its conquest of the N rburgring Nordschleife, but with a time of 7:37.47, this was the quickest time at "The Ring" from a muscle car.Of course, 3 years later, GM showed up to the Nurburgring with the 6th gen Camaro ZL1 and broke their own record, running a 7:29.60 lap with the new supercharged Camaro. Other than this newer Camaro, we still haven"t seen an American muscle car (or any American car other than the Dodge Viper or Chevrolet Corvette) run a quicker time than the 5th gen Camaro Z/28.

People always underestimate American cars. In 2004 the Corvette Z06 was the first production car to lap the ring in under 8mins! Beating Porsches and BMW's etc on their home turf!
