Here is a very rare car. It is a Dodge Wayfarer roadster from 1949, of which only 5420 were made.

Known as the D-29 series, the Wayfarer had a 6 cylinder, side valve engine of 3.8 litre, with a 3-speed fluid drive gearbox and a folding soft top. The car had no external door locks and the wipers were vacuum powered. Built between 1949 and 1952 the Wayfarer shot to fame in later years by being the car used by John Travolta in the film Grease.

This Wayfarer is absolutely excellent condition. We imported it ourselves from Canada, it being part of a collection over there, and which had often appeared in shows where it was a multiple trophy winner.

It underwent a full restoration in Canada, we believe in 2010 being repainted in the original Airmaster Red. The restoration included putting the car on a rotisserie, and amongst the new parts fitted were bumpers, grille, whitewall tyres, new glass throughout, full interior refit by Chinook Upholstery, new canvas soft top, new carpets inside the car and the boot too.

The engine was rebuilt by Competition Services in Crossfield, the suspension was replaced and the brakes were all new. In 2011 an appraisal was made of the vehicle by Nelson Racing who estimated the value at 36,000 dollars - 6 years ago!

The Dodge Wayfarer roadster drives very well indeed, and the engine is smooth as a sewing machine. The gears work well, and there are no known mechanical issues. At present the car is undergoing MOT, and UK registration, and we anticipate it being available by the end of June 2017. Once registration has been achieved, the car will require no MOT or tax, as pre 1960 cars are both tax exempt and MOT exempt.
