One of our favorite projects of all-time, bar none, is this incredible little Chevy Colorado. The once-boring, refrigerator white pickup began its life as nothing more than a mundane work truck. But after it was acquired by the man behind Sloppy Mechanics, things began to take a turn for the better. With a junkyard-source LS under the hood and some forced induction, this Chevy Colorado is now a tire-burning maniac.But of course, that just wasn’t enough. SM is determined to see just how far he can push the envelope with this amazingly little sleeper. So in this latest video, we continue to see it evolve in an effort to find out just what kind of power this combination is capable of. Or, alternatively, to see what poor part will break next.This time around, changes consist of an eBay-sourced fuel pressure regulator (55 psi static), 210 lb injectors, a second Walboro 450 lph fuel pump, and 60% ethanol. With horsepower quickly ascending, the idea is to see just how the converter holds up (i.e. if it blows). Testing starts out with low boost, around 4 psi, and just gets cranked up from there. But even that’s good enough for 415 at the wheels.Crank it up to 21, and things get serious. With a pair of boost controllers hooked up, the super sleeper Chevy Colorado pumps out 622 ponies. A little bit of tweaking saw an improvement to 649, but the converter was definitely limiting peak torque. But as SM notes, “if it keeps making more power on boost, we’re gonna give it more boost!” Sounds reasonable to us!At the end of the day, however, diminishing gains brought this experiment to a screeching halt.
