Last week we learned of the existence of a Mercedes-AMG GT R. A faster, harder version of the AMG GT supercar, it will "set a new benchmark in terms of driving dynamics," if AMG boss Tobias Moers is to be believed. This appears to be evidence the GT R exists, and that it (alongside Merc"s engineers) is hard at work testing at the N rburgring. Because where else? It"s shifting along, but it appears this isn"t the GT R in maximum attack mode. For that, we"d expect some barely contained oversteer and a more sonorous howl form its turbocharged V8 engine, which is clearly being short-shifted through its gears at points. But there are tell-tale signs it"s being pushed, nonetheless; the strobe brake lights, as electronic nannies cut in, and the scuff from the undertray as it bounds through one of the Nordschleife"s compressions. We get a good glimpse at the GT R"s uprated aerodynamics kit, too. Note the lower front splitter, additional intakes in the grille and more intricate rear diffuser, which appears to house a central exhaust pipe. Oh, and there"s a great big fixed rear wing, of course. Thanks go to YouTube account CvdZijden, whose cameras were pointed at the Ring as the GT R nipped out for a couple laps. Like what you see?
