It’s been almost 40 years since “Smokey and the Bandit” hit theaters, but the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am featured in it is still an automotive icon. Its popularity has even outlived the Pontiac brand itself, which was shuttered several years ago. There have been rolling tributes to the 1977 Trans Am Burt Reynolds drove in the movie. A Reynolds-owned TA once used to promote the action comedy sold for a stratospheric $450,000.A company called Trans Am Depot has been making modern Trans Ams for a few years, using fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaros as their foundations. The Bandit edition incorporates a number of touches that fans of the movie and the car will recognize. The black and gold TA has a giant Firebird on the hood, T-tops, and snowflake-style wheels. Each of the 77 cars that will be produced will also bear the signature of the Bandit…er…Reynolds himself.Trans Am Depot fits its automotive homage with a custom interior decorated with special Bandit logos. It also stuffs an LSX 454 V8 under the hood. Its 840 horsepower are bound to motivate owners of the cars to engage in some high-speed high jinks.Chime in with your thoughts on the forum. >>via [Motor Authority]Follow @derekshiekhiTags: 5th Gen Camaro, camaro, Pontiac, Trans Am, Video

The first concept was done by a guy called Kevin Morgan. A nice guy who is really modest about how his ideas gained momentum until Restore a musclecar took up the fight on his behalf led by a guy called Dave Hall, (yes we have met them both!) then NPD took the idea this step further.
This V6 version is in the country and has been for sale for a long time, PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM CHEVROLET CAMARO 3.6 V6 6 SPEED MANUAL BLACK LEATHER | eBay
I guess it's a much smaller market here but in even in V6 guise I have seriously considered this car.
