Cars are not planes. Generally, they"re happiest and at their best when all four wheels are in contact with the ground. But that doesn"t stop some cars thinking that they"re planes. And a lot of the time, WRC cars mistake their identities for planes.See, at various stages in the WRC calendar there are notorious points where the thoroughbred off-roaders do battle with gravity. It actually becomes quite competitive. At Rally Sweden, there"s the coveted Colin"s Crest" award. It"s a trophy named in honour of the late, great Colin McRae, and given to the driver who flies the furthest over a hefty hump on the SS16 Varg sen stage. But there"s also another well-known jump Micky"s Jump at the upcoming Rally Italia Sardegna this weekend. There, the road literally falls away beneath the car, sending the incredibly expensive rally weapons flying through the air with a trail of dust in their wake. And boy does it look good. No matter what it is, watching a car fly through the air tyres dangling at full stretch is a majestic sight. But in the rally world they sometimes take it a step further, by going Full Plane".Above is a compilation of some of the biggest jumps in recent years for your delectation. And a special TG shout out to Alexander Saluk, who had one of the most bonkers airborne experiences possible during WRC Turkey in 2010. Check it out for yourself above.
