This week"s Throwback video features a television commercial for the 1982 Pontiac Firebird a car engineered to conquer the wind. Based on the brief details, this 1982 Firebird ad played during a Sunday night airing of Superman: The Movie, so this spot likely played for a very large television audience. Now, watching this 1982 Pontiac Firebird commercial today will likely leave you laughing, as this commercial is pretty corny by today"s standards. I mean, what difference does it make if a car can conquer the wind? Who races against the wind? However, back in 1982, the secretive, almost military feel of this commercial gives the impression that the 1982 Pontiac Firebird as an engineering marvel created in laboratories and because of that, it can conquer anything including the wind.Crank up your speakers and enjoy! Tags: 3rd gen, Firebird, Pontiac, throwback thursday

As I recall the 3rd gen Firebird had one of the lowest drag co-efficient of any car. It even beats the Corvette C5 which I think came second.
I'm not sure but i don't think any car has ever beaten it but I'm happy to be corrected.
I think the 3rd gen achieved a drag co-efficient of 0.28
