Weird things with the lights on the T/A.

Odd things happened when out at club night I noticed on the dash that my left indicator was on dim, and turning left it wouldn't flash. Thinking it was perhaps just the flasher.
Someone mentioned that my fog lights were on, but they were not switched on. turning off the car and lights. One head light stayed on very dim. I could hear a bubbling noise, sounded like the rad was hot, it turned out to be the headlight motors pulsing.

Yesterday and today I've been out there, tracing through wires with the manual and a volt meter. Checking wiring looms. i did find a couple of doubtful earths that i have made good and ohms checked. All the SVA light mods have been changed back to US spec with solder and sleeve joints.
One part of the loom I haven't checked is under the car where it goes to the indicators this is the same loom as the full beam and fog lights.

An interesting thing is that i removed the fog light relay, but they still come on dimly, so they are getting power from another source, its like its shorting with the headlamps. Perhaps a loom had been crushed.

No pictures, jI've had the lower part of the dash off, checking many wires, the flasher units, the DRL module and much more.

Pull the wires to every front end bulb, and then reinstate circuit by circuit.
So add the turn signals back in and see if they function. If not remove them again and try the side lights etc etc
Isolate and test would be my approach.

Yep, headlight motor module removed, all connectors to headlamps removed. Cant get to indicators from the top. Daytime Running Lights module removed. I should get under the car sometime Saturday to complete bulb removing and further checks.

After having a think last night I wonder if when the plastic trim was put on underneath the car a longer screw was uses, perhaps caught a wire. These wires are a pain to get to. At that point the bundle of wires for indicators, headlights and fog are all together. Examining the cable loom in the engine bay it looks fine, then goes through a hole into the bumper. It was simple to get to when the bumper was off.

At Waterlooville show today. Took a look at bulbs and measuring earth's. Got the A-team looking too.

Moved earth points and more measurements. Tried lights and indicators with the engine running. All working now. :)

Conclusion is there are two earth's from the battery, one cable direct to block, other direct to body. The body earth stud looked okay but on closer inspection it was rusty at the base. It wasn't making a good connection. We have move this to the bolt of the headlight assembly, I aim to remake the earth stud on the body. I may add some additional earth paths too.
It's crazy what effect bad earth's have, who would have thought fog flights would come on dim when there is no relay connected to them and switch on dash was off, one headlight doing something similar too.

Bad earth connection remember. Car was dissameled for respray could br paint on paint connection not been cleaned so not making good earth or electrical plug not seated properly clicked in .or even dodgey/bad bulbs.
