When we published TopGear's first watch magazine back in 2011, we wondered if we'd find enough stories to prove that if you're into cars there's a good chance you care about what's on your wrist. We needn't have worried. This is the fourth one, and each year we find new evidence of a healthy bond between the worlds of watches and TopGear-ish things.
Once upon a time, a carmaker's ‘partnership' with a watch company would result in cheap wrist-tat with a logo slapped on its face. Not today. Just look at Bremont's E-type piece - it's as if it were designed by the same pen as the car itself. If you like that, there's plenty more to keep you occupied over the next few pages. Take the Tag Heuer Monaco V4 and its clever, belt-driven movement, expertly explained by James May. Or Bloodhound SSC, the 1,000mph car with a speedo by Rolex.
Of course, we couldn't sign off without talking about the Apple Watch, which might be late to the smartwatch party but - hey - it's certainly livened up the occasion. Some say it could spell the end for traditional watches, but while we admire its talents, we beg to differ. As James May says, mechanical watches aren't as accurate as digital stuff, but they're still "fabulous curiosities and objects of great intrigue".
Well said that man.
