Got myself an anvent calender. Contains 25 little bottle of various whiskys from around the world.

I do like trying different types. I got a sample of seaweed whisky, and going by the description I wouldnt have brought a full bottle, however I really enjoyed it and got a whole bottle of it.

So this month I'll be going through many sorts, and hopefully get to another one where I will end up getting a full sized bottle. Perhaps more than one.

Todays one. Lagavulin 8 year old. 48%.
Nice smokey smell, taste similar to the seaweed one, preferred this over yesterdays.

Thanks for the link to the Bourbon one, seems to be good quality stuff!

Yes, they have a lot of nice stuff. I was expecting to see the advent calender come down in price now its passed the 1st Dec. They do mention it spacially selected for 2024, so perhaps they wouldn't keep the same set for 2025?, I guess whiskey does store well so they could, which would mean no discount as the days go past..

3rd Dec. Loch Lomond, 12 year old single malt scotch 46%
No real smell, hard to tell the difference between this and the 1st one. Still nice.

Being sealed like that it should last for a very long time. Out of interest, how are you drinking it? On its own or with something?

This is how he will be drinking it lol.🤣

Just on its own. Took one to car club last night to share with Derick. Its only 30ml, so just above the UK regular shot of 25ml (although some places so searve 35ml).

Smelt woody, and has a nice smokey taste.

Would be interested in getting a whole bottle of this one.

7th Dec

Antiquary 21yo Port Casks

This well-aged blended Scotch whisky from The Antiquary combines premium Highland and Speyside malts with Lowland grains. Matured for a total of 21 years, the whisky enjoyed a generous three-year marrying period in tawny Port casks sourced from the Symington family estates in Portugal.

Nose Waves of floral peat, oily, waxy notes of hessian and drying hay, backed by vanilla, cocoa, and coffee grounds.

Palate The Port cask reveals itself with notes of dark poached plums and jammy wild berries, joined by chocolate-dipped orange wheels and smoky, meaty malt.

Finish Cranberries, stewed red fruits, a touch of brine.

Day 8. 57.2% irish whisky.

Nose Nutty, rich and oily. There are notes of dried peels, ginger, linseed and cut fruits including a touch of melon.

Palate Spicy with great body. Nuts and citrus (peel and juice) with hints of marzipan, dried fruits and a hint of Sherry. You turn it over in your mouth forever.

Finish Long and creamy with custard and spice.

9th Dec. Talisker Storm 45.8%

Nose Initial brine, but not as abrupt as the 10 Year Old, quite creamy by comparison. Banana. Banana angel delight? Window putty, hint of sticking plasters and barbecues, citrus. White pepper develops towards the bottom of the glass.

Palate Thick and mouth-coating with wood smoke, brine, some tin and chilli heat too.

Finish Red chilli peppers and oak dryness with a hint of embers
