Everyday, we get leaflets we didn’t ask for and coupons for crap we’ll never buy and the more we complain, the more it piles up. The really worrying part about junk mail is how we might throw something away that we actually want or need in the process. Case in point: a Michigan woman who almost lost a valuable lottery ticket in a pile of old mail.

Linda Tuttle of Kentwood, Michigan purchased a ticket for the "Mega Millions" lottery back in May with five matching numbers worth $1 million. Unfortunately, she left the ticket in a stack of mail and it stayed there for almost four months. She remembered that she purchased the ticket when a clerk at the store she bought it from told her that they had a winning ticket that had gone unclaimed. Just imagine, if she didn’t need gas or got a sudden hankering for Slim Jims, she never would have found out that she’s a millionaire.

So she searched through her pile of papers that she kept in an old chocolate tin and discovered that she had the unclaimed, winning ticket. I hope the lottery office gives her one of those really big checks so she doesn't lose that either before she had a chance to cash it.
