Pirelli kicked off its testing programme for next year"s Formula One tyres at Ferrari"s Fiorano test track this week. And they"re wider. And faster. Wider and faster is good. How wide? A whopping 25 per cent bigger than the compounds they"re running on this year"s F1 cars. A certain Mr Sebastian Vettel took to the wheel of a modified SF15-T fitted with these new, wider tyres, and managed a few installation laps at Fiorano. He tested out the dry spec tyres for a few laps, but spent the majority of the day on the artificially damped track driving the Intermediates and Wets. The SF15-T was also slightly modified to provide the downforce expected from next year"s cars. All in, he did 120 laps. Both Red Bull and Mercedes will also join in the test programme across nine more dates, and naturally all data will be shared with the teams.Have a look through the pics. Wider tyres are just better on F1 cars, aren"t they?
