The car has a 292 cubic inch 4.8l Ford Y Block V8 engine producing 205hp which has proven to be very reliable. It has a 2 speed Ford O Matic air cooled auto transmission or 3 speed if you use low to pulled away in.
The 58 Wagon seems to be very hard to find, I have only seen 2 others in the US for sale since I"ve owned this one.
Although the car is very rare it"s a Ford and parts are plentiful.
I brought this car as a custom surf wagon, it had been lowered by the last owner in California and finished with a flat paint job. I didn"t like the way it drove nor the paint finish so I have spent much time and money putting it back to this beautiful standard.
It"s far from being original and still has the electric door poppers rather than handles which is quite fascinating to people at shows.
You will find that the underside of this car is very solid with new foot well panels and a new completely trunk floor which was done in California.
I have completely wax oiled the under body and repainted the chassis rails to help to protect it from the UK weather.
I removed the fuel tank, cleaned and resealed it with POR 15 kit then re-sprayed the outside as well.
The suspension has been renew front and back with new coils, bottom ball joints, inner and outer rods, rear ad leaf spring and U bolts which has given it back a much better and correct ride.
It has a all new interior which is in keeping to that 50"s vibe which now matches the new paint job which was completed in 2015. The one thing this car has always been is reliable and even more so now with electronic ignitions and alternator conversion. I would drive this car any distant and with confidence.
There are many other jobs completed on the car but to much to mention but all work is documented with photo"s in the car"s portfolio which also contains some history and info.
I would say the car"s condition is very good over all and would score it 9.5/10 for body and finish and 6.5/10 for the chrome work.
It"s not mint but very clean classic which will grace any show because of it"s rarity and it"s very clean and detailed engine bay.
Unfortunately I can"t keep them all and need to sell one to make more room for a new project. So if you like station wagons to use and cruise as is or add your own personal touch later this could be the one.
But just for now add fuel and go and enjoy this summers shows and cruises.
