As we"ve discussed before here plenty the Mercedes G-Wagen is not an obvious tuning candidate.Body-on-frame chassis, fifty-year-old military origins, the aerodynamics of a postbox it"s just not a born performance car. Not that"s it"s ever put off the likes of Brabus.Proving that point once and for all is Brabus"s latest output: a tuned version of the G500 4x4 Squared, which if you need a reminder, puts the enormous tyres and portal axles from the especially crazy Mercedes G63 6x6 beneath the regular, four-wheeled G-Wagen.For reasons not quite clear, Brabus has raised output of the 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 from 416bhp to 493bhp, while torque now stands at 523lb ft. hope those portal axles are built as tough as they lookDespite such titanic power, you"ll still get dusted by a hot hatch. The 0-62mph run takes 6.9 seconds, so it will struggle to keep pace with a Ford Fiesta ST. Mind you, the Brabus can probably manage that on any terrain from here to Antarctica. Those chunky tyres mean, as per all G-Wagens, top speed is limited to 130mph. Thank goodness.Course, you"ll need well over 200,000 to put one of these G500 XXLs in your commodious garage, and hopefully hues beside blue are available inside. That"ll look awfully tatty after a few weeks working down on the farm, no?Share this page: FacebookTwitterGoogle+WhatsAppMailtoCopy link
