Having sat un-used in its owners dry barn for the last few years, alongside some of the rest of his collection, he has realised that he will never get round to restoring it to his required level as his Mustangs and Astons take president, so the decision has been taken to put this very solid 1962 Ford Thunderbird up for sale.
Visually its body work is good and as an "everyday" driver is more than acceptable, but there are some areas of concern, primarily the panel between the boot lid and rear window which is showing signs of corrosion, no holes but bubbles under the paint. There are also some bumps that can be seen under vinyl along the edge of the roof, but these are solid if you press them so not too sure what"s going on there? All the stainless mouldings are very good but the chrome has suffered a bit on the bumpers and rear light surrounds.
Interior wise things are very good, everything looks to be original and in surprisingly good order, with all the electrics, windows seats etc working, even the original radio! The dash is excellent with no splits and the rear seats don"t look to of been hardly sat in. Carpets are good but grubby and the roof lining is undamaged. Really it needs little more than a clean and would be a shame to do much more and risk spoiling its originality.
Mechanically its 390 cube V8 now fires up easily with the addition of a new battery, no nasty noises or smoke and soon settles into a nice healthy tick over. The exhaust was renewed approximately 5 years ago but the car has not been used since and on moving it out of its resting place for the first time the brakes were poor, so it has just had a new servo and rear wheel cylinders. Now mechanically very strong. Boot floor, door bottoms and the chassis under the car are all excellent.
So what you have is a running, driving car at a price that gives its next owner the option of either just leaving it alone and drive as is (believe me I have seen much worse on show fields), slam it on the floor, stick some lovely chrome multi spoke wheels on it, have the bright work powder coated an spray the body accordingly or restore it to original?
The car is currently staying with its owner so please contact to arrange a viewing prior to travelling.
