Ioniq - first thoughts?

My Kia will be 6 years old this year. I'm happy with the car, and tempted to go EV on the next car. Kia done seem to so a small EV. Maybe the Ioniq would be the way to go.
Does the garage you buy them from still throw in the power connection to the car? I guess it would need to be a beefy bit of cable for fast charging. If its just a 13A plug giving 3000W, then I guess a 21kwh battery would take around 7 hours to charge?.
As you have solar power Dan, I guess you having an electric car would be slightly greener?? I'd say definitely cheaper to run? 🙂

My company cars are leased cars so can’t comment on whether they include anything beyond the standard 13amp charger from a main dealer.
If you own the car you can get a government grant to cover the cost of a fast charger.
Based on the current car and not the new one with its larger battery, the standard 13amp charger will take it from almost empty to full in about 12 hours.
A faster charger based on 3.5kw will take about 7hrs.
A 7kw will take <4.
The rapid chargers at motorway service stations will go from empty to 80% in 40-45mins but don’t use them all the time or the life of the battery is degraded.

I will point out, that at home I use the standard 13amp charger. My work has 7kw.
Between those two, pre COVID, most of my charging was done at work with weekends usually at home and usually Sunday night only ready for the week.
Longer journeys I based around rapid chargers but then I don’t own the car and don’t have to worry about frying the batteries early!

That's what I was thinking. Between March and August in sunlight with no clouds it is normal to see 2.5 - 3.2kw on the roof. In theory I could charge the car totally free over a couple of days.
