New alloys for the T/A

They have arrived. Will make the car sit 1.5 inches higher at the rear. The diameter looks small. Its ment for my car. Sit on the axle, springs locate on top.
Excited to go and try them.

The ride height dose look better. But to me from pictures the set up just dosnt look right might angle pictures go over a pothole or a sleeping policeman speed bump it could jump of. Or out of set up..

I may be wrong but I thought tyres/wheels had to be within the arches for MOT purposes.

Yes its the angle of the picture, the cup of the sping extender fits snigly onto the raised bit on the axle. I had to disconnect the shock at the bottom. to give me enough room to get the extender in there. Was tough to sqeeze the spring to position. Usually the spring will fall out with no shocks connected, but with this extender it is tough. So if anything the spring will find it harder to come out than standard.
The pictures can look odd and could move, but everything seems located perfectly, and flat. I have no concerns.

I know what you mean, in some photos it looks like they are sticking out.

If I pop a ruler on it, they are not out from the arch.

Looking from the rear you can see the tyre as the body work tapers in. I will ask the MOT guy next time I see hm for his opinion.

When reversing at a Pontiac meeting place on uneven camber the tyre got caught on the wheel arch and removed some tread. This seemed to be a one off as not done it in a year.
As a result of this it pulled the inner arch down a bit to be closer to the tyre.
It's a bit hard to see, but the lip is horizontal usually and in places pulled lower.

After GoKarting last night I gave it some beans. Well the tyre certainly got close to the tyres again and removed more tread. I'm going to need to get a new tyre although no canvas yet. Yep it's as bad in person as it is in the photo.

So what now, well increase the bump stops. I guess as the tail dips on a launch the axle moves to the passenger side of the car. Causing only this side to be effected.

I made an 5mm aluminium spacer a while back. Let's make another to double it up

1000072922.jpg

Can't find my aluminium strip. Found some sheet steel which is no good, also got some copper sheets, thickest of 2mm. I think I'll order some more aluminium.

Let's address the wheel arch. It looks fine on the body side, it's just the inner lip that's sharp and not level.
1000072921.jpg

Can't really tell much from the above photo.

I brought a rimming tool. Curve that lip upwards and round it off.
1000072923.jpg

Some of the paint came off, but wasn't concerned as painting it back with rust protector. the tyre has removed paint down to bare metal.
1000072924.jpg

Roughed up and given it a coat of POR15.
1000072926.jpg

.
Can't see the curve too well, but inner lip is pointing up now.

Well happy with that.

New tyre yes. Need to find out why back end is twisting good that you sorted metalwork on arch. Could be weak spring damper or rear end bush

Could torque from a launch cause one side to dip more than the other. I'm sure I've seen this on some cars at Santa Pod cant reacall what side dips more than the other.
The shocks are set to 65% stifness. They were 50% a month ago.

It could be down to my swap bar. I do have poly bushes on the end. The bushes look fine, perhaps they could be tighter. The roll bar is the WS6 one, so thicker than the standard Firebird one. So it could be play down at the ends. My thinking is reading up on this aftermarket swap bar. The point out staying level during launches. Mine does feel like it dips and leans when getting off the line quick.

keeps everything straight and true so yes you have a problem and its not your right foot lol,,,,, :p :p

The 10mm this aluminium bar to make a larger bump stop spacer has arrived.

red neck engineering going on i like it lol, (y)

You are a true redneck Chris lol.🤣 We salute you

The anti roll bar bushes needed more turns. It is a locking nut so probably didn't come loose, however when I first put it on I was reading posts about not to squeeze the rubber, it was probably jacked up I even took which didn't help.
Anyway got 3 turns on thr driver's side and 5 on the other.

Took off the old bump stop. Needing to cut up a new metal spacer and get longer bolts. These were M8x40, needing M8x50. Only had 3 of them, so nipped out to Screwfix to get some more, wanting to stick with stainless, so was £4.59 for a pack of 10.

Angle grinder quick and easy to get through 10mm aluminium.

Get some nice bevels on there
1000073144.jpg

Then install. Do e the same both sides.

Got myself a Ryobi lamp a few months ago. Very useful, certainly recommend them.

Gave the car a good run, certainly seems firmer in respect to the roll. Taking some higher speed corners and giving it some beans on the corners. No evidence of a rub. Perhaps it's sorted. Will keep an eye on it.

its good you found something else wrong when working on car,
need to put some rust treatment in some areas you can see the rust coming through the stuff that neutralises the rust not just covers it,

Yeah I have some stuff. As I was doing up the end links the support for them is showing signs of rust. I'll take bits off to treat and do bits underneath too.
