As you all know, the Camaro has been off the road for a 'little' while hwell: but now she's not far away from being back on the road. Main problem was lack of keys, but now my new ones have been sorted, it has made it a lot easier getting the Camaro out of the garage.
So today.....Dan and me were going to change the brakes, but after getting the wheels off we could see that the brakes were fine, they weren't seized and had plenty of life left in them....so that saved a big job. So instead we put in the new radiator...which was not the simple task it was meant to be!! Bolts were seized on, pipes wouldn't go back together but it all worked out in the end. Whilst the rad was out I cleaned all the leaves and other crap that had gathered underneath it, dried it all off and painted all the metal work. Can't have it rusting now......
Out with the old......
In with the new......
With the radiator in, topped up with water and antifreeze we fired her up!!! I have soooo missed that sound! Took about 5 minutes for her to start running smoother but she got there. Before she came off the road the temperature gauge would go through the roof within a few minutes so we kept a close eye on the temp. The gauge went up to about 160 and stayed there, water was circulating the system nicely so we were happy.
To make the front end easier to work on (Camaro was driven into the garage front first) I got to drive her, a little, on the road to get her turned around and reverse her into the garage. I forgot just how big this car is! After getting her in the garage, scraping on the ground as she went over the hump-like pavement and onto the drive quite a bit of rust was left behind.....from the exhaust luckily.
So now she's tucked up in garage again, for now, and providing there are no other glitches, tyres will be ordered this week and fingers crossed MOT and tax next week!! I'm starting to get excited now!!!
