Dodge Challenger Demon

Even more rumours:

Dodge is bringing back the old Demon name and using it as an option on the Challenger.
The rumour is that it will be more HP than the Hellcat. Released as a 2018 model means it will be in showrooms later this year.

Horsepower? Well the rumour mills are churning and estimates are around the 900 mark from the factory with a forecourt price of $100k.

I'm also hearing about the Hellcat's replacement, the Hellfire! HP??? Well..... over a 1000hp is the rumour!

Truth to any of this? Who knows? But the Hellcat blew everything out of the water with its 707hp when it was released so just maybe Dodge will do it again.

HTML:
the Hellfire!
That was something Airwolf used wasn't it? lol

Yes you are right ground brake stepping into the 700bhp bound's for a street car . it has moved the goal post for future car's

But the same note it has also pushed the price up out of reach of alot of people

Wont be long before we see them in scrap yards. How is anyone gonna be able to keep it on the road. People are going to think they can handle it, but that's some serious power.
Thats like veyron power, 1001hp, has 4 turbos and something like 11 radiators.

Well done vin IMG_3134.jpg the car to the right is the new demon

Where is this Chris? Any details?
The hood looks like an aftermarket one that I've seen on plenty of Challengers - really surprised that Dodge would copy the aftermarket.

Found the video. They are both Demons. The flared wheel arches, the Demon logo on the sides and those enormous hood scoops.....
Even if they have same engine as the hellcat, at a supposedly 200lb weight loss they are going to fly but if Dodge pumps up the muscle these cars are going to push the opposition again!

And more..... sources reckon the 707hp Hellcat engine will get another 100hp and possibly the AWD now offered on the entry level Challenger. That would make it a very serious performer.

And more: Rumour has it that the Dodge Demon will have only one seat!!!!
Shows how track focused it is, but is it drag strip or race track?
Those huge 315 tyres up front hint at cornering, surely a drag car would have skinnies up front?

Interesting, but don't know how true?

"The Demon will be a standard-issue Challenger with a few changes, the largest of which is hidden from view: a secondary A/C cooler. In the 8.4-inch U-Connect in-dash screen, there will be a button for Drag Mode. This shuts down the main air conditioning compressor, opens a solenoid, and runs A/C refrigerant through a secondary cooler that is being called the 'chiller circuit' - filled with the new 1234YF coolant. A steady flow of 1234YF runs through the circuit, and the water temp is dropped to about 20 degrees centigrade - 68 degrees Fahrenheit, or room temperature. The freshly-chilled coolant is fed through the intercooler. The intercooler chills the inlet air, and cool, dense air is able to pack a denser, more explosive charge in the combustion chambers. More aggressive ignition timing can also be fed in. The result, we're being told, will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 horsepower."

Seems a lot of effort for a little increase in bhp from the hellcat? Perhaps they should do a redesign the dropped 6.4 engine with stronger bottom end and a sharp cam allowing more psi for the charger would alllow more??? Most think the hellcat 6.2 with better cold air feed and cam swap and exhaust you'd be looking at over 900???+tune

But a bigger cam with longer duration and more overlap probably wouldn't pass emissions. It's easy to build horsepower, not so easy to do it and keep it clean, and unlike aftermarket tuning houses the manufacturer has laws to obey. The positive side is that it generates innovation like this.

Valve overlap with a supercharger is something you dont really want in as you are just blowing compressed air out of the exhaust that you have used power to generate.
It is good to see these high horsepower cars, the battle of the power numbers. Will be interesting to see how many years the cars last will people come off the road(although the people who buy these cars would probably know how to control them), or will the force induction shorten the life of the bottom end considerably.
I know you can't compare american muscle with Japan high boost cars, but you hear of them just doing a few thousand miles before it blows up and then sling in another block. I would expect the Hellcat to last to 100k miles, but will it make it.... I guess it's gonna depend on if you use the power.

Well a supercharger is producing boost all the time, unlike a turbo. So I would expect it to be built to last beyond the warranty. Dodge (Fiat) don't need scores of expensive claims or reputation damage.

Will this be your next car?

Will this be your next car?

No, it's too drag strip orientated for me. A Hellcat would be nice but most agree in the real world the power is unusable as it just annihilates the tyres meaning a scat pack Challenger is almost as fast everywhere except a race track.
But whilst I love the retro looks of the challengers I like corner carving. My 4th gen Trans Am was probably the best handling 4th gen in the country with all the mods i did, so for that reason the new ZL1 is very appealing especially in 1LE trim as it's a few hundred pounds lighter.
On the other hand my interest in American cars is definitely on the decline so who knows?

Dodge are already having problems with the super chargers on the hellcats! That being said I'd still buy one there's two srt8 on flea bay at the moment a stick shift one from the same guy AM got his and another seller selling one with vortex super charger. Trouble is if it's going to have a super charger it's must be from dodge lol

The supercharger bearing issues were resolved a while ago, and were all covered under warranty. The current crop are fine.
As much as I like manuals I think the sheer enormity of power means I would prefer to keep both hands on the wheel, I'd go auto!
Although, I think I would still go Scat Pack. The sheer financial savings and the fact that only under certain conditions would the Hellcats HP advantage be useable, makes it a bit of a no brainer. Although I really don't know for sure until I had both in front of me and the cash for either!!!
