Lockdown - your estimate

The point your missing is that I can’t change what I already own, but I can be more selective in what I buy moving forwards.

Nope, obviously. My point was that even if we think we're not buying Chinese from now on, we may still be in part.

The new alternator I got was an AC Delco one, it has a made in China sticker on it :(.
It's not going to be easy avoiding products from that side of the world.

Sure, that's typical of what I've found. Chinese stuff gets everywhere...a bit like a virus!! :(

I understand where loyalties lie but having worked in what is deemed one of the worlds top motor manufactures it won't come as a suprise that parts are sourced far and wide.In the times ahead it is now that global trading is needed more than ever regardless of personal opinion

True, for companies to make products at a competitive price they have to be sources from cheap places.

We have some contracts for the US government. The product needs to be entirely made in the States, however I believe a certain percentage of the product can be sourced from elsewhere.

I hope it wasn't the DV6 engine you were working on

Lol. Every phone including house phones feature Chinese made components.

I agree, we are suffering from a non working Ethernet internet system in our house, Bellway Built, terrible finish, and every item bought in bulk from China, from the Ethernet sockets which never worked (my son in law put me new connections in not pretty but the system now works) to the Sanitary ware I am very doubtful on the Zanissi Oven and Hob as both have already been replaced, Chinese copy?

Hopefully lockdown won't last long - as of tomorrow evening I'm furloughed ?

Oh no. :(
I've heard a few people being furloughed, not asked them how things work. Do the government pay 80% of what you normally get(up to a certain amount) when do payments start do you have to apply and wait months?

Hope the lockdown sorts out soon too. The amount of people out last weekend you would thing the lockdown was lifted already.

The government pay 80% of the gross salary up to a maximum of £2500. I believe the firm applies to the government for the money and then pays the staff from there.

They have said I will get new salary end of June.

I was taken off the road 24th March and shortly after furlough kicked in,I got full pay for March and now on 80%...The company are keeping me informed regular with their return plans but last email suggested the situation would be looked at towards the end of June
