Ordered a car cover

Nice cover Dan :). I will be joining the club soon too (but not until after Christmas day) 🤣🤣

Got mine sorted at the weekend.
Went with the Cair O’Port which is a framed carcoon essentially. It uses an aluminium exo-skeletal frame and three fans to promote airflow. The concept is that it creates a bubble that means the temperatures doesn’t vary quickly which reduces the condensation that causes rust to form. The car went in damp so I left the drying vent open for 24 hours and then closed it. The fans create a very effective bubble so nothing is touching the car.
Has flaps on both sides to make getting in and out the car easy and the rear unzips to drive the car in out. Got the battery maintainer in there too.
Building it was a faff, no other way of saying it. But as it will stay up until spring it only has to be touched twice a year.
But by far the best bit is that nothing is touching the paint.

I have to say that this took longer than our tent to put up when we go camping 🤣🤣

It does look good, fits nicely in the garage too.

Letter from TNT today. Feckin £32 customs charge. Well I'll be constructing an email to the car cover company. Their website said nothing out outsourcing it to the other side of the world and certainly nothing about import charges. They will be paying this or they will be getting the cover back. A tad annoyed here!

That is disgusting. Fingers crossed you get somewhere!

Their shipping page is interesting

Says
“Orders are being shipped through international shipping couriers and are out of our control. Generally, a parcel will arrive in 5-8 business days after shipment.*” and

“Please be informed that you are not obliged to pay any duty fee (except orders shipped by FEDEX). You may only be required to provide particular form of identification before releasing a shipment (such as a Unique Identification Number, CPF, or Tax ID).”

I would have read that to mean they ship internationally from Uk to other countries but the first line could be read as though they ship from abroad - but naughty - but still worth a try to contact them though

Yeah, nothing really stands out that they manufacture in China. I read that as they ship from UK to other countries too.

I'll scan in the TNT customs in voice and email it to them. There responce to emails wasn't quick before, but their online chat was pretty good.

good luck

No swearing its sunday lol,,,,,

I could have had to pay more if they put the actual value I paid on it.
I paid around £130 for it, so I guess £100 goes to the London company and they place an order with a Hong Kong place and pay them say £30.

I have a copy of all the documents with the customs bill. So going to construct that email now.

How does this sound?

Hi,

I’d like to put in a claim for import tax the car cover ordered from you. Attached is the bill from the courier which I will pay and seek to receive the costs from you. I ordered the product from you as the website looked great, many levels or car cover to choose from I went for the £139 one which was towards the higher end I wished to pay. As you are a company in the UK, I was happy to help a UK business so was happy to pay that little more for a car cover. There was no reason for me to think you manufacture or place an order with another company in another country on the other side of the world. My order was with your company, I shouldn’t have to pay an extra £34.63 for the product.

Looking forward to your response.

Dan.

I'll submit a review of their company from their response.

I tend to go strong early as then they know I’m serious, but always have ammunition in reserve. So, a bit soft for me, but hopefully they’ll respond positively.

Thanks. Email now sent, fingers crossed someone will respond.

Got an automated response already

I think it should be law that sellers are made to state where items are to be shipped from. We have the right to know so we can make a choice. This is happening increasingly too often.

Yeah I agree. Certainly if it incurs more charges. So effectively the car cover is over £160 now. Which is pretty steep.

Weee, I should have read reviews before purchasing.

A lot of people said they gave them 1 star as there was nothing lower.

I'm happy with the cover, it will do the job, sounds like I was lucky to actually receive a cover.

How can a company with this many bad reviews still opperate? Shouldn't someone like 'trading standards' be after them?
