Running

Getting serious! After successfully completing the 5K Run to Remember for the Royal British Legion last year, I'm about to sign up for a 10k in April and a half marathon in October.
I'm sure I can do the 10k, I have done two since the Run to Remember but despite lots of running my current stamina is low, so this should give me a good goal to train for.
The half marathon is daunting even at 9 months away! I must be mad - I'll be running 13miles on my 45th birthday!! :faint::surrender:

Must be mad lol built for comfort not speed got cars for that ha ha. Well done on the 5k keep thinking I should do something like that might even leave the car at home!!!!

It's actually addictive, once you see and feel the results and realise what you can do. You just want to do more!

I totally agree with you've said. I've never been a runner but yes, it is addictive - I just want to run ;)

I used to be a runner, only short distance though 100m and 200meters, was like the top 3 in the schools and they wanted me to run for Hampshire. I was no good at distance. Wouldn't mind giving it ago again.

I find it hard to run slow, I tried running with Sarah, and had to stop then start. I think I try to go the same speed as I used to. Same on the push bike. I should certainly train more, and try to pace myself to go a lot slower.

Here's an idea. Start running together and leave Sarah behind. Get to a point when you are a certain distance in front, then walk back to meet her. Run again, repeat. The additional distance you cover over Sarah will mount up and the fast/slow running is great for building stamina. I also guarantee you will have to slow your pace otherwise you will be walking to recover and as Sarah plods along at a slower pace she will overtake you!
Kind of a tempo run, known as Fartlek training.

'Fartlek', lol. Sarah will have a comment about that name, which is one thing that was putting her off last time.

I will certainly try what you said though when this cough shifts.

Oh my, I couldn't run properly for laughing so much!! He'd get going and then fart.....I can't laugh whilst running haha!

Spent over £120 this morning on new kit for us both - compression fitting leggings and tops to help wick away the sweat - helps keep you cooler and also helps weight loss too not that we are struggling with that side of things - I've lost 4 St 10 lb in 8.5 months and Dave has lost 8 St 9lb !!!

We have just looked at our chart. Since we last saw you guys at the season closer, I have lost 1st 2 bs and Dave has lost 2st 6lb - omg!!

I unfortunately haven't ran as much as I had hoped because the first time out in my new running shoes I injured my knee and had to wait for it to heal. It turns out I have a collapsed arch so I bought some new inserts for my shoes today - so fingers crossed tomorrow morning. I did however manage 4.6k yesterday to go pick up the daily driver from the garage but my knee is twinging. I'm hoping with the new inserts I will complete a 5k tomorrow ;)

Good luck with the run!

We won't recognise you when we see you next lol.

Yep - with Dave helping to keep me going I managed 5.1k non-stop - yay!!
He then went on to do a further 8.5k - so a total of 13.6k - Wowow!

wow, that is very good. hows your running shoes now? did they help your knee?

Cant believe the distances you are covering. I bet you both feel a lot fitter now.

Much better although still a little twingy from Friday's run.

I'm just happy I managed to get round without stopping :)

Got our plans for next Saturday. I'm going to try 5.8 and Daves going to try 15k ;) with some fartlek training during the week ;)

Ran home from the station tonight. Dave ran to the station to meet me and we then ran back together.

Interesting run as it was only 4k and I was really struggling at about half distance and then Dave noticed I was running wrong. I was doing more of slow jog - sort of like shuffling, so putting a lot more effort in and not really getting anywhere. So he got me to try something new and I found it so much better. Now I need to put it into practice again this weekend :)

I love having my own personal trainer :) :)

Going to concentrate on fartlek more too as apparently it's a great help ;)
