As for comparison. I had a quote from Carl at CRP and this was his response from a couple of years ago:

12-bolt has 33-spline axles, S60 has 35
12-bolt has Trak lok posi, S60 has Truetrac, the cost to up-grade Trak lok to Truetrac on the 12-B is $299.00.
The 12-bolt has a history of being noisy, the S60 is much quieter and stronger.
The 12-bolt costs $179.00 more than the S60.

Obviously you will need to get upto date pricing. But, you can find Carl on ls1tech and he used to offer discount to forum members.
Ymmv!

Thanks for the info. I'm not too worries about noise, the one's I had were a bit whiny compared to standard. I'm more after strength, and never having to change it ever again.
So although the S60 is stronger, the 12 bolt costs more.
The shipping will be the killer. I will give Hauser Racing a call on the 5th Jan, they were offering dollar for pound prices, the Eaton True Trac(for 10 bolt) they were selling at ?390, which is pretty much the dollar price you see in stores in the states., so I'm hoping it will be similar for complete axles.

As long as you realise that the 10 bolt is inheritantly weak regardless of the manufacturer, and know it's unlikely to be the last time you replace it at your power level.

I'm still leaning towards getting a complete axle, and its likely to be the S60.

Sounds like a plan. I know when we had the Trans Am, Dave was soooo close to buying it too ;)

I think the s60 is the right choice, my research at the time left me in doubt and I wasn't pushing anywhere near the power you are. But of course, money is the bottom line.

Your research has some in handy then, as it certainly seems it the right choice for me too.

I probably wont go drag racing(well not often), so at least on the road with road tyres the tyres will spin up first. I just cant be bothered to change all the internals again, it cost around 1K last time, with Posi around ?500, Gears around ?200, Half Shafts ?200, Bearings etc.. oil ?50 mind you I'm thinking the half-shafts were near on ?400, So I spent over ?1K renewing the internals. The damage was probably caused by that darn retainer clip dropping out. So annoying, well next time its gonna be stronger and no clips that will fall out.

Got a reply from Hauser Racing.

The S60 you are after complete with 3 point ABS will be ?2650.00 + Vat. Less brakes. We should be able to press on the brake brackets.

The S60 will be going up in price on Feb 1[SUP]St[/SUP]. Strange will bring in new pricing then.

So I should be able to run up there with my brake brackets for them to press onto the new one. I was expecting about ?2.5k for the Axle, but the darn VAT takes it to ?3180

Prices are around $2.4lk in the states, but shipping it will almost come to ?3k.

Do you have a website for CRP? They seem to be a pipe specialist in the UK, and google search for 'CRP AXLE' returns nothing of interest. Would it be? CRP Automotive

My experience is 1$ = 1?' by the time you get it here. Allow a bit more due to size and weight but I still think it could work out cheaper.
Crated, it weighs approx 315lbs and measures 60"x15"x18"

Central Racing Parts or check the first post in this thread for a direct link.

Do you know anyone that brings lots of stuff over that you could get space from?

Thanks for the info. doh did't check first post., Well clicked on the link some time ago but didn't acknowledge it was CRP.

Spool or Posi?

The posi is the Tru Trac type which is like the standard GM design, which I like, no dopey clutches.

Got it, Spool locks the two wheels for racing in straight lines, no good for me.

I thought that was a Detroit locker.

Anyway, I get it Posi is the option i need on the CRP website.

I'm sent them an email. Gotta be worth a shot. I mentioned you and this forum.

The next issue may be getting off my old brake mounts from the old axle and pressing them onto the new. I know someone with a press, but it doesn't open as wide as an axle.

Good luck ;)

The head of IT of our company in the States is well into fast F-bodies, he currently has a Vette either C5 or C6, uses it for arranged road racing. He used ot have a few cars and done a lot to them, he once had a 4th Gen fbody with 800hp. I've not spoken to him since he came over here about 4 months ago. It was more of a business meeting so didn't talk about cars too much, but when I knew the Americans were coming I brought my car in.
Well I pinged him off an email this morning in hope he can help, perhaps if they have a shipment going to our factory in Ireland, I could get away with just paying shipping from Ireland. Nothing may come of it, but its worth a go.

Yes, I had planned to take advantage of my work connections to get it here too.
Sometimes I miss the f-body, parts are so much cheaper. As soon as you say Corvette, everyone adds a little more to the total. Strange but true.
