As mentioned on other thread about starter motor, i have looked on rockauto recon 96quid with shipping , ok not looked at my starter motor yet might just need brushes or as Dan has suggested might be getting hot from manifold could be ? as you can get parts as well from rockauto,
Starter motor is close to the headers if the crosshead Philips screw is for brushes it won't budge and there are 3 screws from what I can see to take srater out. When I do get round to it as I have some exhaust wrap here proberly do that at the same time.
Yeah that is close. thats gotta be heating the starter making it hard for the starter to turn once warm. Exhaust wrap should certainly help. May need to remove the starter or headers so you can wrap the headers well.
Spent some time I mean sometime as well what a PITA this was to remove due to headers being so close. But out now you can see the tooth gears are worn so have ordered new one.
Car on ramp the headers were in the way of 1 bolt to get ratchet or spanner once 2 bolts undone it wouldn't get past the headers and the oil pan. Tilting sliding in differant ways still no joy pty bar on headers didn't help fixed solid removed auto box cover manage to get pry bar in just hope it not damaged header or pit a split in oil pan as the housing jammed into pan. Putting new one in is going to be be fun. Might remove oil pan.
You would think it would slide out like you expecting quick easy job to remove but no very close tight to headers the stater solenoid hitting body once bolts out if you tur 180 degrees the engine cross member is in the to slide stater motor out. But it's now out thankfully. And the gears being worn not worth anymore faving about just replace with new one
Are they non standard exhaust headers for the car?
Yeah does look tight. Quite easy to get to mine. Did you damage the oil pan? or are they just paint scratches?
Possible? There drivers side header dose look like it's been made to fit with all the differant shapes and small pipes melded to make shape as the passenger side is all one piece if that makes sence. . Wen under neath last night saw to rubber hoses on passengers side in the metal fuel pipe rail flow return pipes I believe and one snapped in my hand very brital so replaced both. There's also a rubber pipe on drivers side will check that one out got 2 metal pipes that side one is brake line.
New and old pipes dodged a bullet with one as it was split. And the other is a fuel line to tank y one fuel line on drives side and the other 2 on passenger side??
Well the old starter was on its last legs so good job got reman unit from rockauto and new unit now back in car not started it yet as waiting on oil filters as replaced sump gasket as well.managed to put some exhaust wrap on. The brush springs on old unit not very good and didn't move the same
Must be angle of photo direct replacement same size, no room still a pig to get in ,
once oil filters turn up thought i had some but only the Chevy filter from the el Camino its shorter but would work as a temp then put oil in then try starter hopefully all good,??? then my be do the petrol tank lol, the 6th pic in you can see how tight the new one is,
LoL, no drama today thankful filled engine up with new oil and filter no leaks even the car strted with no drama so new starter motor all good , so mybe next weekend take the tank out see if i can find the leak?? as don't think i will do mopar nats at the pod,
12 volts on tester but on cranking drops down to around 6volts under high load. the load switch on tester drops it to 10 volts. it's on charge at the moment.
Have also topped up the anti freeze with blue type as well put about a ltr in.
When I fit new battery will run engine and then check anti freeze level and level of protection
