Creating a new Airbox for the Firebird.

Made some adjustments to the model. Printed out in the final stuff. It has some undesired banding on it. May be the trying process wasn't perfect. £8.60 of material.
It's usable as it is, I may run some small rest prints. It I can resolve it then and could reprint. It's perfectly functional, so I may leave it.

Why yellow??
Your cars going to end up like a harliquin lol.🤣
So far purple. Body. Red ant roll bar. Yellow 3d printed parts think engine is blue.
Wasn't it vw that did the harliquin pole with every panel was a different color??

Sponge bob is yellow.
The hexagons in the purple t-top pieces are yellow, brake calipers are yellow.
The top of the engine is blue, but that will be black soon.
Couldn't do the pipe work in purple as the high temperature stuff isn't available in that colour. So yellow was the next best thing.

Coming along nicely though Dan , don’t rush it probably best till after wheels day

Reminds me of my front end. Like something from a McDonalds play park. lol.

Think Ronald would have to agree lol 👍😂

Pipe with the air temprature sensor and the MAF sensor is coming along well.

Mainly minor tweaks now to get things to line up to the nearest mm.

As /i have the 3D model of the engine bay its grat to refrence things. The software lest me do a 'slice' of the cat, so say a 10mm wide strip. I can move this 'slice' to check the airfilter to bonnet clearence for example. A cross section showing my to yellow pipe. The cone shaped airfiler sits inside the airbox. ven see the cross section of the radiator under the larger yellow pipe.

Maf sensor part going well. 3 holes on 1 side, 2 on the other.

Cit some grooves ro recess the wire in the plastic.

Made some more progress on the airbox last night. The item is 700mm wide. To get this to print I need to split it into 6 peices. Ofcourse with splitting you need a way to join it back together once printed. So I have split this in half horizontally, and there are bolt holes with room for a nut on the back to get this back together.

Next I need to split it into 3. Its getting there. Really happy with how it is coming along.

Done a print at 35% size. Handy to put on the parcel shelf for wheels day. Could be a talking point.

Done. Divided it into 6 peices so it can print. Have to be creative on joining it back together Mainly M4 bolts, some with nuts some with threads in the plastic.

Same model with the air filters and pipe to the intake.

I'm happy with the design. Started to print in cheap stuff to make sure fitiment with the hood and radiator is perfect.
Just 1/6th is going to take 8 hours to print. I'm in no rush though.

Patient office quick 👍👍👍👍

Part 1 of 6 printed out. It's come out nice, honeycombe pattern looks good.
Did miss some through holes, but that's the reason for printing it in cheap stuff first. The next part printing is the part behind this. So I can test to see if it holds the radiator and fixings in the correct place.

Entire thing will be 1.89kg with 0.35kg being support that would be broken off, as cant print in the air, it prints a thin support structure underneath to hold it up.

When I sat 1 of 6. This are parts of the main body. there will be a 7th print plate. This contains some bolt on parts, some are to reduce the amount of support on other parts making other parts flatter on the bottom. Also parts here are like straps to screw/strap peices together. It was a real struggle getting it into 6 parts as it would only just fit. Total width is 700mm, splitting it into 3 means I have 233mm wide parts, My max I can print is 254mm so there is little room for overlap. I did give around 5mm of overlap and added brackets on this plate below. It should all work out great.

Going to run out of White. I have around 1.5kg, and need 1.8kg. This will be going on the wall of the garage once the real one printed and on the car.

Next peice currently printing.

Goes over the top of the radiator, and the rubber parts on the top corners of the rad locate in the model.
