Running

And the 12 week schedule is now gradually being ticked off :)

Friday's and Mondays look like my sort of days.
Great work, keep it up.

We have shifted the days slightly so Sunday's and Thursday are rest days because of car shows ;)

Yay - did my first 10k this morning. Bit slow at 1hr 15 but I did it

Thats good, well done for hitting the 10K target.

Thanks Dan - feeling a bit sore now especially as we spent the rest of the morning working on the TATA and the whole afternoon/evening finishing laying the decking boards! Achey achey!!

Well I thought I'd give this running thing a go. Realistically, it's going to be the best way to loose the flab. I can't remember where I first read about it, but I decided to have a go at the Couch to 5k running plan. I have an app on my phone which tells me when to walk/run warm up/down. I can play my music at the same time, which is a must for me.

About 7 years ago I wanted to have a shot a joining the Royal Navy as an Aircraft Controller ( I worked as one in an anti-submarine simulator) so I started a remedial program, which is a lot like what I'm getting with the Couch to 5k. At my fittest, ish (eating issues) I could complete a mile and a half run in under 11 minutes.

So, today was day one....I'll have to keep track of weight and things as I'm going along. Week nine will be the week ending with the season closer!!!

This is what I'll be doing over the next few months..........NHS Couch to 5K: week by week - Live Well - NHS Choices

Well done Sarah - keep it up girl. Those couch to 5ks are good. Are you doing it on a treadmill or outside?

Looking forward to seeing the progress :)

Get a heart rate monitor. Even a cheapie type with a chest strap.
Knowing what your heart is doing and the zone you exercise in is crucial.

We both started with cheapie chest strap types, but given the amount of running we do we have both graduated to new devices.

Knowing what your heart rate height is, is crucial for your health and for weight loss and for fitness. This is the single most important piece of advice I can offer, besides discussing this with your GP.

Ok pics as promised:

This is the view from the far end so we already had done around 6.5k ish :)

And here is the view from our walk back to the campsite after we had completed the near on 10k :)

Dunno why the pics are round the wrong way!

So Sarah, updates? How is this going?

It's going good. The past week has been really difficult though with an ankle injury resurfacing.......about a year ago I decided to tumble down the stairs carrying the Camaro's radiator and making my ankle face the other way for a little while!! So I'm still doing the running, but having to back off after a while :( Other than that, I am actually enjoying it!!

Thats great news - just take it easy on the ankle until it strengthens.
Keep it up and if you need any advice just holler!

Thank you!! I'm just soooo glad I started. My clothes have started to fit differently, which is a great booster too.

When my ankle starts to be an a-hole, I have just gone onto an inclined walk, seems to keep my heart rate up, legs working without causing my ankle too much bother?

just came across this which made me chuckle, so had to share :)
