Started dismantling Trans-Am engine

Looking very good Dan - thanks for the pics ;)

Super pics and write up dan looks like lots of fun

Wow very good write up there dan with good photos no rules broken there then . so engine back in today ?

Not today. Where is it at Will's workplace I can only really do the days he is available(although he has offered me the keys, its a big responsibility). He has been a massive help getting it this far. We may offer the engine up tomorrow after work.

Tonights update...

Flywheel fitted and pilot bearing in the crank. New clutch going on, nice colour blue that matches the rockers.
Spec Stage 3 clutch.

All lined up with the clutch alignment tool.

Stick on the bell housing as the bolts are easier to get to here. Hopefully the input shaft of the gear box allows me to join it to the bell housing under the car. The concern is being able to have the gear box far enough back to thread the shaft through the clutch disk and pilot bearing, if worse some to worse then can take the bell housing off again.

Planning where to put the engine it in a moment.

Ready for the lift.

Hood taken off the gas struts and pushed up further to insert this perfect bit of wood

Managed to get the crane to get in as far as possible, and on a longer chain we could swing it into the engine mounts.

With a bit of jiggling, got the bolts through for the engine mounts.

So next to install some accessories. Water pump and power steering pump goes on.

Well my roast dinner is being cooked and almost ready so time to pack up. Good progress today.

coming along nicely bet you are pleased, good pictures bet it was fun moving engine hoist on the brick paving.

Surprised you fitted engine without the headers on. Hopefully not to much to fit after. Good work

Wow looking good :) surprising how quick it will go back together now :)

Headers slide in from underneath. They will go on once it's high enough to get gearbox in.

Hoping to get some time on the TA today. jack it up higher at lunch put it on ramps front and back. Need to see mum after work, so after 7.30pm will try to put the box in. That is if I don't get sent to Ireland today. Worked till about 1am, created a fix, so it may work, but can't verify if anything else got messed up, the simulation looks very good. I can do some visual checks on the display this morning, they can do further testing in Ireland. I sent the build to them earlier.
Fingers crossed.

Parked my little car next to the Trans-Am yesterday as had the gearbox in the back, wanted to try to get as close to the work shop as possible.
As we all know the Kia Picanto is a small car, probably the smallest Kia in the range. Now look at it compared to the TransAm which is regarded as a big car.

The Kia looks pretty big in comparison I think.

So the Intake is at work, and we are planning where to put the solonoids, so its been drawn up in cad to work out the best positions and rotations. All four are going to be mounted on a bar which mounts onto two of the fuel rail screws. The 4 will be in line from left to right when looking in the engine by.

In my lunch break we wanted to get the car as high as safely possible ready to put in the gearbox this evening. So popped it onto 4 ramps, cat cant move anywhere, then we can jack the car up on the body to get a little more height if need be.

Engine still present, and looking mighty fine.

Clutch still in there too.

I will take the jag please,
coming along so the tab for the hire of the garage is how much now lol ? when you asked saying a couple of weeks .

Lifted the gearbox onto a pair of jacks, so we could adjust the tilt. The engine is tipped back a bit on its engine mounts. Threading the shaft through the center of the clutch. All felt stable on two jacks, so we could slide it in slowly, through the center of the clutch disc and towards the spigot bearing.

Gap between the bell housing and box getting smaller

So with the box all buttoned up, next it to attached the torsion bar thingy.

Now with the red rubber, it didn't have much play, it was a bit of a challenge to get this on the end, but with a mixture of force and lowering the box it went on.

Prop shaft is also on too.
Great progress last night.

Around 10pm we were all packed up and ready to go.

Having issues getting the clutch pipe back on the slave. Some forums say you have to push hard, which I tried. I didn't spend too much time trying to get it in as it was the night to get headers on. I may have to release the pressure on the slave from the bleed screw.
