I say do it Dan, but its easy when its not my money or labour!
You are so far in and you know you likely have bottom end damage from the debris, its kind of no brainer for me.
The real decision is stock bottom end, or 383 stroker? I 'always' go aftermarket so for it would take zero seconds to decide on the 383.

One question. The advert for the stroker kit says internally balanced. Are all LS motors internally balanced or is yours balanced externally (flywheel)?
If yours is externally balanced you will need a different flywheel and you will need the rotating assembly balanced.
Just thinking out loud.....

ooh decisions decisions :) :)

I believe all LS1s are internally balanced. Flywheels are probably balanced in themselves but not as an engine assembly, on my 3rd flywheel. The front pully isn't keyed, it's tapered fit, and no balancing type method, so with all that I think it's internally balanced.

Engine out

What a truffle to get it on the engine stand. It's like my Bolt pattern is wider spread than the stand would allow, an extra 10mm reach would have been brilliant. Managed to make it work in the end this morning. Longer bolts from screwfix to Bolt it to the stand.

Well Will have a delivery coming tomorrow, so car needs to be moved for a few days. However Engine on stand shouldn't get in the way, so will get working on that, not tonight though, need to secure the car for going outside, window is down so need to insulate starter and alternator wires before sticking battery on to wind up the window.

May be able to look in oil filter, only for 20mins, so won't be enough time to get sump off, will wait to keep that surprise to another day.

Emptied the filter contents into a container. Looked glittery, so Will ran a magnet underneath. You can just make out a metallic pattern from the movement of the magnet near the end of the driver.

Sparkle sparkle - but in this case - that's not a good sparkle :(

I will create a poll.

Dont know hot much my engine block weights with piston and crank in it, but last night we had to make an adjustment on the engine lift, So I grabbed the engine and gave some slack on the crane, yes it was heavy, but i could support its weight. I'd guess at 80-100kgs.

No more updates on the car today, other plans this evening. Will be removing the sump next, perhaps Thursday evening is Wil is up for it.

Could take a week for anything I order to arrive. I do have the line lock kit to install. While the engine is out of the way, could be a nice time to fit that is a good place. I have photos of that area before and after the engine, so got a good idea of clearances.

You will find it much to easier to install the line lock with the engine out. I did mine engine in and it was tricky. Do you have a pipe flaring tool?

No, but there is a place that makes pipes a short walk away from where the car is, so I can bend it to shape, and nip around there to flare it out and terminate it. So I should be fine.
