Started dismantling Trans-Am engine

The parts place are bringing the kit together now. they are pretty snowed under, and will take payment Monday or Tuesday, at least they are starting getting it together. It will be balanced too before it leaves there. Could probably be balanced over here, but I'd feel better if the supplier does it.

Getting exciting now.

Just mentioned to Sarah that as I have the engine out its the ideal time to put in the 383ci kit, as it's something I wanted to do eventually. So no is the time. She said I could supercharge it too, I said well now is the time as it changes thr piston selection. Now where can I find 7k. Lol

Yeah, with that sort of power things would show weakness, like the whole chassis twisting. Drive shaft, gearbox and rear end would all be a time bomb, it would fail at some point.
Think high 500's hp will be plenty for me. This CI increase is like sticking in my entire Kia engine on top, well its 900cc, where the TransAm increase is 600cc, but more power developed from the Transam that the Kia can produce. Think the Kia is 70hp somewhere in the RPM range, lol.
I'm looking forward to what it will sound like, with that Cam, plus with the longer stroke, cant wait....

Not that I tend to get many cars wanting to play with me at the lights. I do remember a VW golf pulling up along side, revved his engine, he has done something to his car. I got mine a rev too,not only was it loud the car rocked a bit too with the reving. He put his thumbs and and made his day. Meeting other people on the road that appreciate other peoples creations is nice.

So looking forward to getting this done, getting the sound I want.

My pistons will be travelling further down the bore than they have before. I may have to get them honed. Towards the bottom of the bore there is a part that hasn't been touched by pistons before, but will be with the longer stroke. Will clean it up and perhaps look into honing.

Towards the bottom of the bore are some black marks, where oil has settled, can't feel and step, but as the new crank will be longer stoke, want to make sure the bore is clean along its entire length. You can still see the diagonal lines from when it was originally honed from new. The amount of time these pistons have gone up and down and there is barely any wear marks.
So will be taking the block to Banda engineering tomorrow for all bores to be honed and a hot wash. Will be taking the remaining sensors off tonight, crank position, cam pos, and knock sensors

Block even lighter now with no crank or pistons.

Turning into a much bigger project now,

Ready to take to Banda in the morning to get honed. All sensors removed, engine mounts and the crank bearings.

There are plugs but they are threaded Allen key type plugs. No signs of any oil weeping around them, nice and solid.

so next weekend so the jigsaw back together then ?

When it comes back is the time to paint it. What colour you gonna go?
I know it's not traditional as it's a corporate block but you can get VHT Pontiac egg shell blue on U.K. eBay. Might be a nice throwback to the original Pontiac blocks?
