Started dismantling Trans-Am engine

Paint arriving today. Will get some masking tape today. Still got loads of cleaning of parts to go, may get a chance to start painting.

They could still do with a bit of spit and polish.......................................................................................................................................................

Dan,

Just had a major concern hit me.
The LS motors need the oil system priming before start up when they are bone dry. If you fail to do this you will damage every bearing and never develop any oil pressure.
I'll do some research but suggest you do too. I know there is a special tool but there might be workarounds too.

Wow I have some way to go yet.

Yeah good point. Last time I changed the pump I cranked it over many times by hand. Cranked it over with no spark, but would be best to fine the proper method considering all is new. Bearings will be creased with engine assembly lube. But must get oil into the pump as it cant pump air to start pumping oil.
Thanks for the thought.

Having had a look at the proper tool, its just a pressure fed oil source that had sufficient pressure to fill the oil galleries.
The correct tools are not cheap, but If you wanted you could make one pretty easily.

If you used one of these: 1.5 Litre Hand Pump Up Pressure Sprayer Home Garden Plants Brand New | eBa

Consider it sacrificial and fill the tank with oil, pump it up to pressure and then use a barb fitting to pump the oil in. Once you get oil to the rockers you should be good to go!

Paint has arrived :)

Cleaned up some parts this weekend. Also masked up parts for painting. Masking took some time.

Painted in my shed, it was about room temperature in there so warm enough to paint.

A couple coats of primer.

Then a couple of coats of Pontiac Blue

Clear top coat applied. Instead of leaving it in the shed overnight I have put the parts in the spare room near the radiator To Help the curing.

Looks quite nice with some of the masking tape removed.

The other parts like the other rocker, sump and baffle plates I can't get clean enough to be happy with, after all we want the sump totally clean and free of any tiny loose bits. So I will be getting these parts cleaned like the block.

looking good.

Yeah looking good Dan ;)

Yeah, looks great.
That was a great idea whoever thought of that!!
Yeah thanks, needed that push to do it, and glad so far with the results. May as well do something towards the car while waiting for parts.

Popped round to Tonys last night (around 9 liter twin turbo custom capri) to look at some electrics. We were talking about adjustment of the rockers as his are adjustable ones. Mine are not, so will all depends on pushrod length, just gonna be a case of checking pre-load. All should be fine as being supplied as a complete kit.
Anyway he has put more ideas into my mind. I have the intake manifold off, going to paint it. I also have a 300hp NOS kit sitting in my garage. Why not fit it, even if just for looks, it will look the part, just won't put any gas in the bottle or plum in the fuel jets. It's a direct port nitrous kit, the intake manifold already has boss's ready to be drilled and tapped.

Yep true. I have an assortment of jets with the kit. Think there is even 50's in there too. Bottle would fit in the boot if I had nothing else in there.

You can get brackets to fit the transmission tunnel in between the rear seats and is designed to hold the bottle at the correct angle. Makes operating the valve easier without fitting an electric opener too. Just make sure you add a vent pipe so that it vents outside the car!

Post 983 in "what have you done to your vehicle today".
Knew I'd mentioned them before, and if you have a valve train geometry problem they can definitely help.
